Project Details

CMD Construct played a pivotal role in the decarbonisation project at Kew Gardens Jodrell Laboratory, enhancing the sustainability of this iconic site.

Our team successfully executed a comprehensive range of civil engineering and enabling works designed to support this important environmental initiative. As part of the project, we conducted essential civil engineering tasks, including the installation of ducting and heat distribution lines to facilitate efficient energy management.

A key element of our work included the precise shuttering of the electrical room basement and the installation of a cutting-edge substation. Additionally, we constructed robust concrete bases for generators and Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHPs), critical components in the effort to reduce carbon emissions.

Our scope also encompassed the careful demolition of the existing basement plant room roofing and the supply and installation of new structural steel gantries, new roof and bespoke access hatch ensuring an efficient transition to the new systems.

Furthermore, CMD Construct undertook tarmac resurfacing works, improving both accessibility and the overall appearance of the site.

Working within the challenges of limited space, close proximity to the historic green houses and the necessity to keep access roads open, our team utilised vacuum excavation techniques to safely navigate and manage the numerous underground services present. This innovative approach minimised disruptions and maintained safety throughout the project.

With a strong focus on quality and timely delivery, we are proud to report that all aspects of the Kew Gardens decarbonisation initiative were completed on schedule.
